Technique: Sculptural Installation, an old carpenter's box with expanded tools in space and different intervened materials (wood, steel, etc), "De Oído". Le Laboratoire Gallery. Mexico City..
This work arises from my weekly trips to the flea market that is four blocks from my house in Mexico City. One day I found a large open wooden box, in which the market seller displayed all the tools of a carpenter that he had kept in it throughout his life. I bought it with the idea of ??exhibiting it as an installation, where I would also intervene different pieces of wood and metal with the same tools from the orphan carpenter’s box, whose name and location I wrote down on some piece of paper which unfortunately I lost. After about 5 or 6 years later, with the pretext of a new exhibition, I opened the box for the first time to find all those tools that I saw on the market, and when it came to installing them and using new materials to work on them, it was like having opened a Pandora's box, but full not of evils, but of dead promises, since those utensils stopped being used for many years. With this reactivation in an artistic space, not only the tools resurface as aesthetic and significant objects, but also the memory of this carpenter who apparently worked in many different fields. In this sense, for me this is an alchemist's box, Le Bateleur in the Marseille Tarot cards, which symbolizes a new beginning of the creative will.
Esta obra surge de mis viajes semanales al mercado de pulgas que está a cuatro cuadras de mi casa en la ciudad de México. Un día me encontré una gran caja de madera abierta, y en la que el vendedor del mercado desplegó todas las herramientas de un carpintero que guardó en ella durante toda su vida. La compré con la idea de exponerla como una escultura instalación, en donde además, yo intervendría distintos pedazos de madera y de metales con las mismas herramientas de la caja huérfana de un carpintero, cuyo nombre y localidad anoté en algún papel que desgraciadamente perdí. Después de unos 5 o 6 años, con el motivo de una nueva exposición, abrí la caja por vez primera para volver a encontrar todas esas herramientas que vi en el mercado, y a la hora de instalarlas y de intervenir los materiales, fue como haber abierto una caja de pandora, pero llena no de males, sino de promesas muertas, ya que esos utensilios dejaron de usarse durante muchos años. Con esta reactivación en un espacio artístico, resurgen no solo las herramientas como objetos estéticos y significantes, sino también la memoria de este carpintero que aparentemente trabajaba en muchos y distintos ámbitos. En este sentido, para mi esta es la caja de un alquimista, Le Bateleur en las cartas del Tarot de Marsella, que simboliza un nuevo comienzo de la voluntad creadora.
