Relieves Pétreos - Tezontle

Technique: Sculptural Installarion. Eight volcanic tezontle tezontle stones of different measures (between 30 and 90 cm of lenght) sustained by iron oxidaded cones, 5 cm of diameter and with four different heights (9, 14, 17 y 21 cm).

This work constitutes the second phase of a series of works that I am producing with different kind of stones, the first was created in November 2022 and presented at bóca space in Mexico City, using 18 irregular stone slabs (three different types of slabs, 6 of each) and rusty iron cones to hold them, 3.5 cm in diameter (three cones per slab), with which I have performed several sound activations by playing them as lithophones. In this case, the work is of larger proportions, since instead of slabs I use large red tezontle stones, which are much more voluminous, and irregular in different ways. The title of the work has to do with the game of using different heights to present them, thus creating a stone sculptural geography. The red tezontle can also be touched, producing different sounds, less aggressive, and hollower and more porous, but not all of them can be touched or not in all their corporeality, but only in the places formed by hard stone, and not of porous dry lava that crumbles easily. In this case, this sculpture - installation consists of 8 stones that were also activated, that is, played with the different tools from the carpenter's box exhibited in the same exhibition, and that served as drumsticks to be played by me and by other musicians.

This work was showed for a second time in the Museo Morelense de Arte Contemporáneo Juan Soriano in Cuernavaca Morelos.

Esta obra constituye la segunda fase de una serie de obras que estoy produciendo a partir de piedras de distintas características, la primera fue creada en Noviembre de 2022 y presentada en el espacio Boca, General Prim 14 en la ciudad de México, utilizando 18 lajas irregulares de piedra (tres distintos tipos de lajas, 6 de cada una) y conos de hierro oxidado para sostenerlas de 3.5 cm de diámetro (tres conos por laja), con las cuáles he realizado varias activaciones sonoras al tocarlas como litófonos. En este caso, la obra es de mayores proporciones, ya que en vez de lajas utilizo piedras grandes de tezontle rojo, que son mucho más voluminosas, e irregulares de distintas maneras. El título de la obra tiene que ver con el juego de usar distintas alturas para presentarlas, creando así una geografía escultórica pétrea. El tezontle rojo también se puede tocar, produciendo sonidos distintos, menos agresivos y más huecos y porosos (valga la metáfora), pero no todas se pueden tocar o no en toda su corporeidad, sino solo en los lugares formados por piedra dura, y no de la lava seca porosa que se desmorona fácilmente. En este caso, esta escultura - instalación consta de 8 piedras que también fueron activadas, es decir, tocadas con las distintas herramientas de la caja del carpintero expuesta en la misma exposición, y que sirvieron como baquetas para ser tocadas por mí y por otros músicos experimentales.

Esta obra fue presentada por segunda vez en el Museo Morelense de Arte Contemporáneo Juan Soriano en Cuernavaca Morlelos.
