This series is based in an old idea: I was trying to put into a lab jar an old Walkman cassette recorder with its own headphones on, playing techno music edited by me (see the original Techno in Vitro 1997).

The visual and sonic result of this object made me think in a kind of asepsis where the urban individual takes refugee in order to alienate from the contamination of the daily chaos where he lives. But paradoxically, this sterile protection is at the same time the condemnation of the individual to isolation and the consequent organic interchange with its surroundings. I realized no’s this work in an extended way, but not with walkams (technology changes), but with mp3 players and mini ear plugs, and using also other POP repetitive music genres like trance, Dub and even electronic Cumbia. These series of jars now unveil new metaphors; will these POP specimens will survive? it seems now as if I was trying to preserve them from oxidation!.

Esta serie esta basada en una vieja idea: se trataba de intentar meter en un frasco de laboratorio a una antigua grabadora walkman junto con sus audífonos tocando música Techno editada por mi (Techno in Vitro). El ruido que se alcanza a percibir se convierte en un rumor percusivo, agudo y reiterativo, muy similar al sonido que escuchamos en el metro cuando alguien está absorto y ensimismado oyendo música repetitiva a todo volumen.
El resultado visual y sonoro de este objeto me hace pensar en una especie de asepsia en la que el individuo citadino se refugia, para alienarse del mundo externo y salvarse de la contaminación del caos cotidiano en el que vivimos. Sin embargo, paradójicamente esta protección estéril es al mismo tiempo la condenación del individuo a un aislamiento y a la consecuente imposibilidad de un intercambio orgánico con su entorno. Realizo ahora la obra pero no con walkmans (pues la tecnología avanza), sino con mp3 players y audífonos de chicharito, haciendo también uso de otros géneros de música POP repetitiva como Trance, Dub, House, e incluso la Cumbia.
